J R Magill Cycles was established in 1908 by Joseph Robert Magill. A cobbler by trade he bought the bicycle shop as a going-concern from Joe Martin who had operated a bicycle and motorbike shop from the premises up until 1908.

The business has passed down the family for the last 100 years - first with J R Magill's son David, then with J R Magill's grandson the late Mr Howard Coulter, and now the business is owned by J R Magill's great grand daughter Mrs Alison Smith, niece of the late Mr Howard Coulter.

Since the sudden death of Mr Howard Coulter, the shop has been run by Alison's husband Stephen.
